This collection consists primarily of extensive reference and original research files, with data related to physical (including genetic) anthropology. The preliminary inventory indicates research topics. Reference materials include articles, conference papers, bulletins, and some correspondence. Research materials include original data sets from hospitals, dental clinics, and a scientific expedition to Yap in Micronesia, as well as computer printouts and cards analyzing this data. Scattered throughout the research data are restricted medical records, photographs and negatives of human research subjects. Also includes restricted, non-public student materials.

Edward Eyre Hunt (1922-1991) served in the U.S. Army-Air Force during World War II, and returned to do graduate research at Harvard University. He travelled to Yap, an island in Micronesia where he learned Yapese and wrote his doctoral dissertation on demography. He received a masters and doctorate from Harvard University (1949, 1951), did special studies in human medicine, and taught at Harvard University and the City College of New York before joining the Penn State faculty as professor of ant...
